IT Notice

After updating to macOS Sequoia (or Fedora 40, for that matter), remember to disable “Private WLAN Address” in the WLAN settings for STUWIRELESS; otherwise you might get errors in the authentication portal.

(Also, houses A–D used to be able to access SJWIRELESS because basically last year they updated A–D to a new wireless system and there was a bug that allowed students to access SJWIRELESS, which was fixed in the new update. Apparently it was never intended for students to be able to access SJWIRELESS (and also they sit on different LANs so you can't just bypass the STUWIRELESS router by modifying your routing tables).)

Club Fair and Pao Space

Today we’re having the club fair in the cafeteria between 12:10 and 12:50. The Pao Space website, as presented in Monday assembly, is not completely “open to the public” yet, but it is accessible at https://paospace.runxiyu.org as a preview, but it only works when you’re connected to STUWIRELESS. It is not accessible from SJWIRELESS because of aforementioned routing issues.

Today’s inspiration contains math in the form of MathML, and the displays differs depending on your email client. Apple Mail and Thunderbird should have good MathML rendering, but I wouldn’t expect Outlook to render it well because... Outlook is terrible at rendering HTML. Anyways, the following is a question from the 2023 STEP 2, shared by Cindy Chen.

Let $a$, $b$, and $c$ be the three roots of $t^3 - 3t + 1 = 0$. Find a polynomial $A$ of degree $6$ with integer coefficients such that $A(a+\sqrt{2})=0$, $A(b+\sqrt{2})=0$, and $A(c+\sqrt{2})=0$. Write your answer in a form without brackets.
